Is there any truth to these complaints, and are pay dating sites going to bring people looking for something more serious than hooking up or dating for fun? Will pay sites bring a higher calibur person to the table for you?
Yes and no. Sure a pay site someone has to plunk down some money to join. I guess if someone has the $15 or whatever the membership fee is per month at least it means they have a job and can afford to part with $15. It means they are somewhat more serious about looking for partners. It doesn't gurantee someone is looking for an LTR though.
This kind of ties in with another complaint which is that free sites have many daters with profiles they havn' checked in months if ever. Again this is probably less likely to be true on pay sites. Sure you have those people who sign up and forget to cancel and wind up being charged $15 a month for the service they don't use. Not much different than myself paying a $50 a month gym membership for a gym I havn't been to in a year and a half. That said when people have to plunk down money, even a relatively minimal amount like $15, it shows they are more invested in the process.
So as to answering the question of whether pay sites bring more serious suitors to the table and higher quality people to the table the answer is yes and no. Yes when people are paying they are going to be more invested in using the site. That doesn't gurantee however that everyone you're going to find is looking for a long term relationship or marriage as I think is sometimes the misconception. And yes by knowing everyone on the site at least has $15 to their name that brings you a higher calibur person to the table.
Don't pass by free dating sites though. There's plenty of great catches who are new to online dating and maybe want to test the waters before joining a pay site and you could miss out on these potential matches for yourself by not giving these sites a try.
